Campaigning for action
While research is making vital progress in improving treatment and care, the stark reality is that across the UK, too many people are still dying from blood cancer. Because of you, we campaign for action.
Launching a Blood Cancer Action Plan
In September 2024, we published our Blood Cancer Action Plan with the aim of transforming blood cancer survival in the UK.
We created the action plan with help from people who have blood cancer and people who work in healthcare. Their experiences helped us make sure the plan would work for patients and be possible for the NHS to deliver.
The plan makes recommendations for:
- Building a robust NHS workforce
- Improving referral and diagnosis
- Reducing barriers to care
- Increasing access to trials and treatments
- Driving improvements through national data

Impact so far
Publishing the Blood Cancer Action Plan was just the beginning. Now we're working to make sure the recommendations make a difference. We've been talking to government leaders and health leaders about our proposals.
So far we have:
- Held meetings with partners in the pharmaceutical industry on how to build a more robust blood cancer workforce.
- Presented our plan at the British Society for Haematology meeting in April 2025.
- Responded to government consultations on the NHS 10-Year Plan and new cancer plan, making sure blood cancer was included.
- Joined an expert group reviewing the national cancer plan to keep blood cancer patients' needs in mind.
- Collected new data showing how blood cancer care differs across the UK – starting work to make care more equal.
We won the Association of Medical Research Charities' Impactful Advocacy Award for this work. But what mattered most was hearing from the people who helped create the plan. They told us how important it felt to be truly involved and listened to.
To be part of this I feel so immensely proud, appreciated.
- Jacquie, member of the Blood Cancer Action Plan taskforce.
A year of changes
2024-2025 brought a new government and new plans for the NHS. This made it more important than ever to engage with MPs, ministers and health leaders. We're working to make sure blood cancer is included in any new plans and that they think about what patients need.
Our partnerships have been key to this success. By working with groups like One Cancer Voice, Cancer52 and the Blood Cancer Alliance, we can speak together. This makes our message stronger and harder to ignore.
We'll keep working to make sure blood cancer stays important to decision-makers. Our goal is a future where people with blood cancer have the best possible chance of survival.
