Our ambitions for 2028
We still have work to do to achieve the ambition in our five-year strategy and bring forward the day when no one dies of blood cancer or its treatments. To keep us on track, by 2028 we’ll need to...
Increase funding for new and transformative research
We'll increase funding for transformative research, maintaining our position as a leading blood cancer funder. Through our funding schemes, we'll invest over £50 million in new research over the next three years, backing studies with the potential to transform lives.
Research strategy
We’ll launch our new research strategy, showing how our research investment can have an even greater impact for people with blood cancer.
Make our biggest ever investment in clinical trials
We'll fund multi-arm innovative clinical trials for the hardest to treat blood cancers, investing at least £24 million in the most innovative blood cancer trials ever seen in the UK.
Show our impact
We'll launch our impact report showcasing the difference we've made through research, advocacy and support services, and hold a Research Symposium to share knowledge and inspire the blood cancer community.
Reach more people through the NHS
We'll grow our hospital network to at least 45 sites by the end of 2025-2026, enabling more hospitals to refer people to us at diagnosis so more patients can access our support.
Transform the way we reach people through our services
We'll refine our service design using a user-centred approach, involving people from underserved communities, health professionals, and other influential people. This ensures our services, including our Clinical Trials Support Service and healthcare professional training, remain relevant and useful.
Expand our flagship Walk of Light event
We'll expand our successful Walk of Light event by launching a second UK location in 2025-2026, bringing together more people affected by blood cancer to raise funds and build community.
Reach £25 million of gross income
By 2028, we'll need to achieve at least £25m annual income. This increased funding will enable sustained investments in research, support services and advocacy, for maximum impact for our community.
Increase awareness of our organisation
We’ll invest in the Blood Cancer UK brand and create our first brand campaign to increase awareness among people affected by blood cancer. By the end of the strategy period, we want 57% of people affected to recognise our name.
Become more efficient
We'll optimise how we work by better utilising workspaces, streamlining processes, and leveraging data and emerging technologies to work more efficiently so we can put even more money back into our mission.
