Say Blood Cancer

In September 2023, during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we encouraged people to support our #SayBloodCancer campaign and make blood cancer a part of the conversation.

The words leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, chronic, acute, myeloid, lymphocytic, are just some of the many words spoken every day by our community.

But can you see what words are missing?

That's right – blood cancer.

There are over 100 types of blood cancer, and people living with one of these types know exactly what their condition is called, as do their friends, family, and co-workers. But all too often, people don’t know that the thing they’ve talked about for months or years is also a type of blood cancer.

People aren't given the full picture at diagnosis

76% of people with blood cancer weren’t told their condition was a type of blood cancer at diagnosis.

Because people don’t know their condition is a type of blood cancer, they’re less likely to understand what’s wrong with them. They’re often unaware of the support and services available. And they’re missing out on being a part of a supportive community of people.

We're urging people to say 'blood cancer'

During Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and at all times of the year, whether you’re spreading the word about leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) we encourage you to also say 'blood cancer'.

Despite being the UK’s fifth most common cancer, and third biggest cancer killer, blood cancer doesn’t receive the public profile of the other four most common cancers. Low awareness is slowing our mission to beat blood cancer through research. But you can help change that. ...

How can I help?

1) When talking about certain types of blood cancer, make sure to actually say the words 'blood cancer' – not just the condition type.

2) Share our campaign video across all your social channels.

3) Join our mailing list below so you can stay up to date on our campaign and be the first to know about future campaigns and events.
