Hosting your own virtual Big Brunch

It’s a really tough time for people affected by blood cancer, whether you’re shielding or socially distancing. Why not take some time to reach out to those closest to you and fundraise for Blood Cancer UK at the same time by hosting one of our Big Brunches, virtually?

Here’s our step by step guide to set up your virtual Big Brunch

Chat to your friends to find out when’s best for them. You never know, midday on a Tuesday might suddenly be the best time to host your event as people’s lives continue to change in such unprecedented ways.

There are loads of free video conferencing apps out there, some of our favourites are Google Hangouts, Skype and Zoom but just use whatever works for you. All you will need to do is make sure you can access whatever app you use from your phone, tablet or laptop.

Why not all cook the same recipes? Our fundraising pack contains loads of great recipes that your friends and family can try!

If you prepare your event a few weeks in advance, it will allow people to book online shopping deliveries to come to them to save them from having to leave the home to go to the supermarket. This is particularly important for those who are self-isolating.

Get right into the spirit by printing some of our downloadable bunting and hanging it up where your friends and family will be able to see during your virtual event! Now’s also the time to start baking and considering whether you’d like to play any fundraising games. There’s loads of games in our fundraising pack and asking for donations from your guests to play can help to boost your fundraising total.

The easiest way for your friends and family to support your event is to set up a JustGiving page. Once you have set up a JustGiving page, share the link with everyone taking part (and even those who can’t make it!) to encourage them to make donations

When the time comes, log on to whatever app you have chosen to host your meet up and settle down for some great food with your closest friends and family – whilst supporting Blood Cancer UK at the same time. Remember to encourage your fellow brunchers to donate to your JustGiving page.

Why not send everyone who took part a personal email or record them a video of thanks and send it via WhatsApp or whatever social media platform you use?

Everyone is missing their friends and family, so why not agree to host a meet up regularly? You could even try our virtual Bloody Big Quiz, next time!
