About Professor Stephen Blyth

Professor Stephen Blyth is a mathematician and financial markets academic. He began his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London before moving to the financial industry where he held senior positions at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank. In 2006 he joined the faculty at Harvard University and was appointed as the Professor of the Practice of Statistics in 2012. In 2014 he became President and CEO of the Harvard Management Company, overseeing Harvard’s endowment.

He served as Principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford from 2022 and has recently been appointed as an external member of the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee.

In 2016, Professor Blyth underwent treatment for lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

About Sir Nick Clegg

Sir Nick Clegg is the former UK Deputy Prime Minister (2010-2015) and former President, Global Affairs at Meta (2018-2025). Prior to being elected to the UK Parliament in 2005, he worked in the European Commission and served for five years as a member of the European Parliament. He became leader of the Liberal Democrat party in 2007 and served as Deputy Prime Minister in the UK’s first coalition government since the war, from 2010 to 2015. He joined Meta, then called Facebook, in 2018 and became the company’s chief policy decision-maker and its principal interlocutor with world leaders, governments and policymakers around the globe. He has authored numerous publications, including his latest book How to Save the Internet: The Threat to Global Connection in the Age of AI and Political Conflict.

Sir Nick became involved with Blood Cancer UK around 10 years ago when his son Antonio was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

About Matthew Wilson

Matthew was a leader at Brit Insurance from 1999 to 2022, becoming Group CEO in 2018. He was pivotal in creating its inclusive, innovative and underwriting-centric culture. He was also the Chairman of Ki Insurance and served on the Boards of Brit Limited, Brit Syndicates Limited and Ki Financial.

In 2021, Matthew Wilson was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. He stepped down from Brit in 2022 following his treatment, and later that year founded the Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma fund for Blood Cancer UK. The fund has since raised over £7.5m which has enabled funding towards several ground-breaking research projects in myeloma. In 2023, Matthew was appointed as Chair of Trustees of Blood Cancer UK.

About Alastair Campbell

Alastair Campbell is a writer, podcaster, communicator, campaigner and strategist best known for his role as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy. Still active in politics and campaigns in Britain and overseas, he now splits his time between writing, speaking, broadcasting, charities and consultancy.

He has written nineteen books in the past sixteen years, including two Sunday Times bestsellers. In the spring of 2022, he launched a podcast, The Rest Is Politics, with former Tory Cabinet minister Rory Stewart. The podcast regularly tops the UK podcast charts, and they have sold out some of the biggest and most prestigious venues in the UK, among them the Albert Hall and the Usher Hall.

In 2003, he ran the London Marathon in memory of close friend and colleague John Merritt and John’s daughter Ellie, who both died of leukaemia. Alastair was chairman of Blood Cancer UK for many years, raising over £1m for the charity through various sports challenges and events.
