We know that access to the best treatments approved for use on the NHS is essential to improving survival for people affected by blood cancer.

What needs to change

We want a system where everyone diagnosed with blood cancer can access the most appropriate treatment for them, consistently and without any barriers. This means understanding why approved treatments are not always being offered, and addressing the underlying causes.

How we're pushing for change

To support this, we’ve launched a policy project focussed on identifying where and why these differences in access occur. Our goal is to provide practical recommendations for governments, the NHS and the wider health system to ensure everyone affected by blood cancer has access to the best possible treatment.

Through insight gathered for the Action Plan, we heard from various healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical companies that despite some drugs being approved for use on the NHS, people with blood cancer do not always have access to the best treatments available. We want to expand this insight, to understand where and why people with blood cancer aren’t always being offered the best treatments, ensuring it is grounded in strong evidence, to build effective proposals.

This project is being funded by pharmaceutical companies, they have had no input into the project’s content or direction. Read about how we work with the pharmaceutical industry.
