Clinical Improvement Programme
An overview of our review process and how we'll assess grant applications.
Review panel
All applications will be reviewed by our Clinical Engagement Team, members of the Healthcare Professional Advisory Panel, and members of our Patient Voice Grant Advisory Group.
The recommendations from the review panel will be sent to our Board of Trustees, who will then make the final decision on which applications we fund. Notification of the outcome of applications will be made after consideration of the Board of Trustees. The Trustees’ decision is final and non-negotiable.
Application criteria
Relevance
- How relevant and timely is the initiative to people affected by blood cancer?
- Does the project have the potential to lead to a positive impact for people affected by blood cancer in improving access to clinical trials, and how significant is that impact?
- Why is it needed now?
Originality and Innovation
- Is the work novel or is it already being undertaken elsewhere?
- Does the project address a gap in current knowledge?
Clinical potential
- What are the prospects for good clinical progress?
- Does the project seek to address a barrier faced within your team?
- If successful, is the improvement scalable to be shared across the UK and given as an example of best practice?
- If successful, will the proposed work make an innovative idea more competitive for larger follow-on funding?
- What is the likely impact of this innovation compared to the current patient pathway, and what is the potential impact?
Feasibility
- Do the applicants have the expertise required to achieve the aims of the project?
- Is the project achievable within the time and resources requested?
Resources requested
Are the funds requested essential for the work and potential impact for people affected by blood cancer of the research justify the funding requested?
Sustainability
How will the applicant ensure the sustainability of the project once funding has come to an end?
Question to consider
How will you ensure that the innovation is acceptable to patients (and their families and wider support networks) and/or to healthcare professionals?
