Why are we doing this

The UK Blood Cancer Action Plan set out 17 expert-backed recommendations to improve survival and care. One key focus is strengthening the blood cancer workforce by increasing CNSs (a recommendation for the NHS) and ensuring they receive ongoing support.

CNSs are the backbone of blood cancer care, connecting patients, professionals, and services across every stage of the journey. At Blood Cancer UK, we're stepping up to help deliver continuous support for CNSs, working alongside the NHS to drive lasting change.

We will deliver a programme of continuous support for CNSs to improve onboarding into the profession and long-term retention.

How are we going to do it

We have partnered with expert researchers from the University of the West of England to better understand the support needs of blood cancer CNSs. Together, we’re gathering insights through a national survey, in-depth discussions with our Study Review Group, and a comprehensive literature review.

These findings will inform a draft set of recommendations for training and ongoing support, ensuring CNSs are equipped to deliver the best possible care, now and into the future.

Have your say

We’re kicking off this project by hearing directly from CNSs across the UK. Your insights are essential to shaping the future of blood cancer care.

Please complete the survey and share it with your peers. The more voices we hear, the clearer the picture we’ll have of the needs of the CNSs workforce. Let’s build a stronger and more supported future together.

Survey deadline

Please complete your response by 23rd September 2025.
