Top 10 gifts for someone with blood cancer
(As recommended by people with blood cancer)
When someone is living with a blood cancer diagnosis and perhaps even going through treatment over the festive period, a thoughtful gift can make all the difference.
Here are our top ten picks from the many suggestions we received from people in the blood cancer community:
If your loved one is in hospital:
- "Subscriptions to music streaming, TV, or podcasts services! Anything that makes long periods in hospital easier."
2. "A kindle, a stand and a light. You can even get remote page turners!"
3. "A crossword or sudoku puzzle book, they can give the mind something to focus on!"
4. "A decent pair of headphones! Noise cancelling is a bonus."
5. "A nice notepad is always useful for making notes prior to or during consultant appointments."
If your loved one is at home:
6. "I feel the cold now, more than I ever did, so a warm pair of socks or slippers and a microwavable heat bag works wonders in the winter."
7. "Cosy pyjamas that I can enjoy wearing."
8. "Lavender pillow spray and shower gel. I loved spraying my bedsheets to smell of lavender."
9. "Food delivery service vouchers were always welcome, I could use them on days I didn’t have the energy to cook."
10. "Home cooked food is the best way to my heart."
Two more suggestions which made us feel particularly warm and fuzzy:
"It meant something to me when people chose to send Blood Cancer UK Christmas cards and help to raise awareness and funds."
"The most useful gift I think for me is time. Just a phone call or text if you can’t visit, a letter or card to show you’re thinking of them."
Happy holidays!
