We’re excited to announce a new programme with ITN Productions Industry News

11th Feb 2022

We’re co-producing a programme with ITN Productions Industry News to raise awareness of blood cancer. This will feature healthcare professionals and people with blood cancer. You’ll also hear about the impact of our research, the latest treatments and what we need to do to improve outcomes for patients.

Our CEO Gemma Peters tells presenter, Selina Downes, how this programme will help raise much needed awareness of blood cancer

In the UK, blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer, and sadly, the third biggest cancer killer. There are around 40,000 people who are diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK each year, and yet over half of the UK population can’t name a single blood cancer symptom.

That’s why we’re partnering with ITN Productions Industry News on a news-style digital programme that aims to increase the understanding of blood cancer – among the general public and healthcare community.

Fittingly, this programme will launch on World Blood Cancer Day, which is on Saturday 28th May 2022. It will shine a light on blood cancer as a whole – looking at blood cancer symptoms, current and innovative new treatments, and exciting research breakthroughs.

It will also feature people living with blood cancer and healthcare professionals, who will share their respective experience of having and treating the disease.

It will also show how far we’ve come in diagnosing and treating blood cancer and what we’re going to do to improve outcomes for people with the disease.

Gemma Peters, CEO, Blood Cancer UK said:

“We’re excited to be collaborating with ITN Productions and hope the programme will increase awareness and understanding of blood cancer. Blood cancer is the third biggest cancer killer in the UK and yet, less than half of people can name a symptom of the disease.

“The blood cancer research and healthcare community in the UK are strong and driven to make change. I look forward to the programme showcasing this and demonstrating how we will beat blood cancer in a generation.”

If you are an organisation who is doing positive work in blood cancer and wants to participate please email Georgia Gerstein, Senior Programming Director at ITN Productions.
