Global Talent Visa
The Global Talent Visa is a UK immigration route for researchers and academics who are recognised as leaders or emerging leaders in their field, including medical and health research. It enables talented researchers to contribute to the UK’s world-leading research environment. You could be eligible for individual funding e.g. through a recognised fellowship or as part of a research team with a secured grant.
Application
You will need to apply for:
- Global Talent endorsement via an approved endorsing body, and a
- Global Talent visa
The exception is for holders of an eligible prestigious prize who can apply directly for a Global Talent visa. If you haven’t won an eligible prestigious prize, you will need to get an endorsement from an approved endorsing body before applying for the visa to prove that you’re a leader or potential leader in your field.
There are four ways to obtain endorsement for a Global Talent visa as outlined below.
Blood Cancer UK can support eligible researchers via the Endorsed Funder route (see third route below).
1. Academic or Research Appointment
Endorsement for individuals who have accepted an offer of an academic or research appointment at an approved institution.
2. Individual Fellowship
Endorsement for individuals who currently hold an eligible fellowship or have held one within the last 5 years.
3. Endorsed Funder
Endorsement for individuals who are, or will be, working on a research grant issued by an endorsed funder and are, or will be, employed or hosted at an approved organisation. Blood Cancer UK can endorse you if you were named (or your role was included) on the grant application. This can be as the principal investigator, co-investigator or other role at graduate level or above. You will need to submit the award letter naming you or your role and a statement of guarantee from the research organisation that is employing or hosting you.
You can check here if your host organisation is approved by UKRI. The organisation must be in the UK, but you can do research abroad.
More information on eligibility for this route is available on the Gov.UK website.
4. Peer review
Standard endorsement for individuals who can get an endorsement via the peer review route.
Alternatively, if you are already in the UK on a different type of visa, you may be able to change to a Global Talent visa.
