About the UKBCRN

Welcome to the UK Blood Cancer Research Network (UKBCRN). The network provides strategic oversight of the blood cancer clinical research portfolio in the UK. The network identifies and sets research priority areas in clinical research, with underpinning translational science, and supports researchers to develop studies in these areas.

Network aims

The overarching aim of the network is to improve outcomes for people with blood cancer by:

  • Facilitating participation in clinical trials, through both:
    • Development by the network of funding applications, leading to new clinical trials, and
    • Supporting the delivery of global trials within the UK where appropriate
  • Producing high-quality practice-changing research outputs resulting from the network’s activities.

Structure and governance

The UKBCRN Steering Committee sets the strategy and has oversight of UKBCRN activity.

It comprises:

  • Professor Gordon Cook (Chair, Haemato-Oncology Research Group)
  • Professor Mhairi Copland (Vice Chair, Haemato-Oncology Research Group)
  • Professor Andrew Davies (Chair, Lymphoma Research Group)
  • TBA (Vice Chair, Lymphoma Research Group)
  • Dr Rubina Ahmed, Director of Research, Policy and Services
  • Lead Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) representatives.

Each Research Group has several study groups that develop research in areas of strategic need.

Management groups
Two management groups have operational oversight for both the Haemato-Oncology Research Group and Lymphoma Research Group comprising study-group Chairs and Vice Chairs, PPI and ECR representatives.

Each study group consists of a Chair and Vice Chair, nominated by their individual research group and approved by the overarching Network Chair.
