"We need politicians to care about blood cancer"

I was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2020, and from the start I saw how stretched the blood cancer workforce is in Scotland.

I went years without seeing the same consultant twice, and I didn’t even know what a clinical nurse specialist was because there simply wasn’t adequate cover.

And because mine is a rarer blood cancer, there’s no specialist readily available to me – I rely on the haematology team having sufficient time for training to understand the developments in treatments, trials, and best practice.

Your experience of blood cancer in Scotland really depends on the luck of where you live. It shouldn’t be this way.

That’s why I’m asking you today, to email your Member of Scottish Parliament and ask them to deliver for people with blood cancer.

Whether it’s equal access to innovative treatments and trials, support from a fully funded blood cancer workforce, or reassurance that they’ll be diagnosed as early as possible, no one with blood cancer in Scotland should be left behind.

Please write to your MSP, and help put blood cancer on their agenda from day one.
