Leukaemia is a life-threatening illness but the outcomes for children with leukaemia are improving all the time as researchers find more effective and kinder treatments.

Your child’s prognosis (what’s likely to happen in the future) depends on lots of things, including the specific type of leukaemia they are being treated for. It can also change over time depending on how well the treatment is working. Your child’s consultant (their specialist doctor) is the best person to talk to about your child’s prognosis.

Not everyone wants information about their child’s prognosis. If you don’t want to talk about it, tell your child’s healthcare team – you can change your mind at any time. The healthcare team is not allowed to talk to anyone else about it, even family members, without your permission as parent or carer.

Older children will have a say in what they want to know and who to share that information with.

Our research impact on childhood leukaemia

Tackling childhood leukaemia was the main area of focus for our founders and is where we have some of our biggest research breakthroughs.

A woman takes a call on a headset as she works from home, looking at the computer in front of her. She's seated at a leather office chair with a filing cabinet and window behind her.
