Help improve care for Black and Asian people with blood cancer

Some types of blood cancer are more common in Black and Asian communities, yet support services and health information are often not designed with these communities. We also know there are inequalities in access to clinical trials and other factors that impact survival.

"When it comes to support networks, as a young black lady, finding a support system that feels representative of me has been very difficult."

Are you from a Black or Asian background and have you been diagnosed with blood cancer?

If so, you could help shape the future of blood cancer care. We believe people with lived experience should get to decide what is important to them and what services are needed in their community.

You could add your voice to our campaigns, give your opinions on what we should focus on, or share your experience with the people designing new blood cancer services.

By joining our Involvement Network, you can help identify unmet needs and gaps that Blood Cancer UK should focus on in your community. You could even be part of making life-saving clinical trials more accessible to people from all communities.

No special skills or knowledge are needed - just a willingness to share your experience and give your opinions.

"Going through this experience has given me a new perspective on life. I think even if I just help one other person, it has to mean something."

What's involved?

  • What: We have a range of opportunities to get involved in our work, from small and single tasks to longer-term projects. By signing up to our Involvement Network, you'll hear about them all, and can express interest in as many or as few as you like.
  • When and where: Most opportunities to feed into our work happen online or via phone or email - we aim to make things accessible for everyone. Some activities happen in person, which means you'll get to meet other people with blood cancer.
  • Eligibility: All we ask is that you have been personally affected by blood cancer - this might be from your own diagnosis, or because someone you love has been diagnosed.
  • Skills and knowledge needed: None - just a willingness to talk to us about your experience with blood cancer. You don't need any prior awareness or involvement with the charity either.
  • Safeguarding: We have safeguarding and support mechanisms in place. Our priority is supporting you when you decide to offer your time or experience to the charity.

What will be the outcome of getting involved?

It depends on the specific project or task you get involved in, but ultimately we are working to tackle health inequalities and make blood cancer care better for everyone.

By sharing your experience and opinions, you'll help make blood cancer care and support better for others diagnosed in the future.
