We’ve just found out that the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw raised a staggering £1.95m in just six weeks to support vital blood cancer research. Yes, you read that right – £1,950,000!

It’s the second time that we’ve teamed up with the Omaze Million Pound House Draw, where one lucky person has the chance to win a dream home while raising much-needed money for charity. Our first partnership, in 2022, raised £1,000,000, through our house draw in Cornwall. That money has already been put to good use, funding four new research projects working on saving the lives of children with blood cancer.

The staggering £1.95m raised from the Omaze Million Pound House Draw Yorkshire will help to develop research into hard-to-treat blood cancers and investigate treatment types that could be more effective and potentially less harmful, particularly for younger people.

A donation of this scale is an investment in the type of blood cancer research where breakthroughs happen. And the research it funds could one day mean there’s treatment available to children who have exhausted all other treatment options.

While no one wants to hear that they, or their child, has blood cancer, sadly this still happens in far too many cases. Alyssa was just 11 years old she was diagnosed with blood cancer.

Treated with all current treatments – including tough chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant – Alyssa's cancer returned. There were no further treatment options available, other than a new clinical trial.

Our charity funded the ground-breaking work that developed the treatment Alyssa went on to bravely receive in this world-first clinical trial. And 28 days after starting that new treatment, Alyssa was in remission.

That’s the difference research can make, thanks to incredible donations like this to Blood Cancer UK.

It brought a tear to our eyes when, during an emotional visit to Yorkshire, where the winners of the house draw were revealed, Alyssa and her mum were there to celebrate with them.

Proud Yorkshire locals and Blood Cancer UK supporters, the Calendar Girls were also in attendance and delighted that the latest Omaze house was in their native Yorkshire.

"The house is absolutely gorgeous and only 10 minutes away, maybe we’ll ask to use it for another calendar shoot!"

Everyone at our charity felt privileged to once again work with Omaze and we’re astonished by the amount of money they've raised. And alongside the amazing funds raised, the partnership also has a big impact on raising awareness of blood cancer. More people knowing what blood cancer is, means more people diagnosed sooner, and ultimately fewer lives lost to blood cancer.

For this, we want to thank you, our community, for rallying behind the campaign.

Helen Rowntree, our chief exec said this:

“At Blood Cancer UK we hear far too many heartbreaking experiences of people who have lost people they love to blood cancer, as it’s the UK’s third biggest cancer killer. But thanks to the tireless effort of researchers, the day we beat blood cancer is closer than ever.

“The staggering amount of money raised through the Omaze community will help develop research into more effective and potentially less harmful treatments, particularly for younger people. Thank you to everyone who has supported our charity through the Omaze House draw!”
