History

In 1983, hairdresser Tony Rizzo lost his son to leukaemia and decided to engage his friends and co-workers in hairdressing by creating a charity fundraising event. The Alternative Hair Show was first staged at London's Camden Theatre in October 1983. The show raised £7,500, which was donated to Blood Cancer UK.

The show continued to grow, until it became one of the world's leading hair shows. Proceeds of the shows, now in excess of £12.5 million, have continued to be donated to Blood Cancer UK and other charities.
